I have never seen a counsellor before - how will it help me?
Counselling provides a safe and confidential place for you to openly discuss important issues in your life. When you are free to talk about things in a non-judgemental environment you are more likely to open up and learn more about yourself. When we are given the opoportunity to focus on ourself, without interruption we can gain greater insight into who we are and the patterns that may subconsciously influence us. Together, the counsellor and client can make connections to understand why things might be impacting you and how you can work to overcome them. Counselling can help you fight your anxious thoughts, learn to resolve conflicts, give you a place to release your stress, and help you plan your goals for the future. In many ways, counselling is similar to an “oil change” for the mind - something you need, but often put off until it’s absolutely necessary.

You don’t have to! One of the best parts of counselling is that you get to choose the counsellor that is going to be right for you. It is important to find someone you feel safe with, someone that understands you, and someone you can connect with. Every counsellor has a unique style and only you can decide which type of counsellor would be best for you.
Two reasons you might decide to choose me as your counsellor is my experience and expertise. I have been in the counselling field for over 15 years, during which I have had the privelige of working with many different clients. I also have a strong educational background in the field with two Bachelors degrees, one Masters degree, and an abundance of additional certifications and training.

What can I expect During my First Appointment?
Your first counselling appointment is an opportunity for you to introduce yourself. This is a chance for you to share as much or as little as you would like. The main goal for our first session is simply for us to start building a therapeutic relationship. You can also use this time to ask any questions that you might have about me and the counselling process. We aim to use the first session to identify one or two goals that we can focus on in our work together.
What is your Therapeutic approach?
I work from a holistic perspective. This approach to counselling looks at the connection between your mind and body to see how your mental & physical health are connected and possibly impacting you. For example, some people report gastrointestinal (stomach & digestive) symptoms when they experience bouts of anxiety. I work to help clients discover these connections and use this information to better support themselves. When a client has a well rounded understanding of how their symptoms are effecting them, they can then discover how to best overcome these challenges.
Fees & Insruance
The cost of counselling is $150 per session. Many extended health benefit plans will reimburse you for counselling offered by a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC). Check with your benefits plan to learn more.
